Opium Wars. Imperialism In China

The Opium wars were wars that made a change in China. China was at its peek it had a large amount of opium that other countries and people want. The French and the British were some of the people that wanted so of the opium and they tried to trade but at the same time the Chinese didnt want to trade so the French and the British couldn't do nothing about it. They thought the best way to get it is to win it over the Chinese so they set out the Opium war to label were they stand. The French and The British were the ones to defeat China and opened up new ports of trading for the people to receive goods from the Chinese people. Opium trade blew up for the next century gave great domination for the countries to get it. The Christians were able to spread the religion to others to give god to those of China. Before they were not permitted to. This all happened in 1856.

Exploring Europe these explorers ( Richard Burton , John Speek ) thought that it wouldnt be hard. It was something they shouldnt have doubted. It was hard for the fact that they had to walk in that hot weather. They had to fight agaisnt tribes that lived around there and they would loose because lots of there men would die because of maleria, bad water, insect poisan, or they would run away before even getting to there destination point. The purpose it is wierd that Lake Victoria is named after the british Queen is because it is a place of pure african american people. But they named it a white persons name. That is completly unormal.

The main source and the thing that the white people had over the Africans were that they had guns and much more developed mind state. Therefore it mad them have more power then the rest. Once the machine guns were invented it was like a handfull of people were able to conquer and take over Africa very easily.

Imperialism project

We did the imperialism project because it was the more detailed way to show the takeover of different colonies. It showed how England and France , Spain, Germany, Italy colonies etc took over many countries. I learned that many countries were owned by one major Country like how Spain owned most of South America. France owned most of Africa. I learned alot by just doing this project. Alot of this was based on trades. Spain and Italy and Gerymany etc wanted spices and gold / silver.

Karl Marx and Communism

Karl Marx the creator of Communism. People tend to ask what is Communisn. It is a society of which everyone shares the wealth. There werent many choices to pick off of so people would have the samething instead of having others hate and want what they have. For example there would be one jacket in a store and if anyone wanted that a jacket it would be the same , the one that the factory manufactored. Marx wanted the workers to control the government but the governemnt was to strict. People in a Communist country were not able to print out or say bad things about the government. Communism is a study of relationship between a economic activity and a social life along side a political way of thinking.


Marx thought the upper class were the bad guys and the lower class were the good guys. Said to be that the richer get richer and the poorer get poorer. He basically thought that the Communist way is and should be the way of life. One of the main ideas is class strugles. Throughtout the world its always been a class strugle. Peasants lower then the nobles, and workers lower then the owners. Marx way of thinking was why not make it all equal so that everybody gets a fair shair and a proper paycheck etc.

Karl Marx and the Industrial Revolution

Karl Marx wasnt a fan of the Industrial Revolution. He was upset about the abuse and unsaftyness that the work and factories put upon our people. Marx was a man who thought more of his everyday average people then the ones who were already on top. He wanted workers to control the factories instead of the landowners. His thoughts and analyzations were put out by him and he wanted the people to join a worldwide Revolution. These thoughts were called Communism.

Communism was a new way of thinking. People were to get the exact pay so everything was equal. But people soon seen that these ways were not functioning. Karl Marx disliked the Industrial Revolution but then again was very impressed of the outcome. The outcome setting forth capatalism.

Nationalism and the Creation of Italy

The main definition of Nationalism is a person who loves their country. Applies a common history in culture, and language. Its one of the main driving forces in the contemporary world. I am a nationalistic person. I speak english, I have built upon the american culture, and I pledge to my flag.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Austria ruled the Italian Provinces of venetia. Between 1815 and 1848 a huge amount of Italians started to leave the foreign rule. After that two leaders came . Leaders with nothing alike two people who had different contributions but that both Italy. In 1832 a man by the name of Giuseppe Mazzini formed a nationalist group by the name of Young Italy.

Simon Bolivar and The Latin american Revolutions

Simon Bolivar is a famous man that accomplished alot so that the people will be free from the binds that which Spain had kept us held from. Spain basically controlled Latin American. Everything From Chile,Ecuador, Peru, El Salvador ( South America ) to Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba ( the Carribean islands) etc. Simon Bolivar was a man who wanted his people to be free. He first helped Venezula to get thier freedom. From then on he helped others to get out of the clutchs that Spain had .

This all took place after the American and French Revolution. Everybody was hearing about being on their own and having thier own government that Simon wanted to do the same so he travled to America to study. In the matter of 20 years all of the Latin American culture were free because of this man. The defeat of Spanish army gained much respect for Simon. This is why he is a very important man and we learn about him till this date.

Simon Bolivar has the country Boliva named after him because of the help and great deal of effort he put towards helping that country out. Simon was born in Venezula and dedicated his life to helping out these countries.

John Locke and "The Enlightenment"

Thomas Jefferson stated in The Declaration Of Independance, paragraph two, all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Basically meaning that all people in The United States Of America will have equal right. That people have the right to pursue there happiness and have liberty amongs eachother.

It also says that the government splits its power. Also that the people, we as citizens, make the government. Following by the way that The Enlightenment thinker ( John Locke) set forth his ideas. Governemtn comes from the people. Thats how we handle our government today, having we as the power have Life, Liberty, Pursuit of property. Jerfferson just switched the last word from property to happiness and we can see that Jefferson was very influneced by Locke's ideas. So for conclusion it is said that Democracy came from the ideas of Thomas Jefferson and John Locke.

Capernicus and the trail of Galileo

Galileo centuries before the Scoopes trail in 1925 had set a book out stating that the world did not sit on the center of the universe. Bought him on trail agaisnt the Romen Catholic Church. The humanism theory came first for the fact that the pope and people thought that the sun had revovled around theEarth. It took away the liberty of Galileo. Galileo followed under the Copernicus book writtin in 1543 named Revolutions of the Celestial Orbs. Basically stating that the sun was at the center of the unvierse and that the Earth revovled around the sun once a year. The Correct theory would be Galileos theory for the fact that we also use it till this day. Just with a few modifications.

The trail set forth a huge fight. Which ended the italian Renassiance and also Galileos Freedom. Made Galileo go on house arrest a while because the people felt betrayed. But Galileo kept most of his beliefs to his most closest friends like John Kepler. Who stuck with Galileo throughout this argument.

The geocentric theory came first stating that the Earth was at the center of the world. The heliocentric theory went agaisnt that and said that The Sun was is the center of the universe. And Newton was just the climax to the entire Scientific Revolution.

My opinion would be that Galileo and Newton should have been treated much more different because it made sense and Galileo proved everybody wrong. The scientific Method help new break throws till this day. IT was a change for the peoples way of thinking and it made people have much more knowledge of the world they live in.

The Scientific Method

The Scientific Revolution was a new of thinking. It was a idea that was different, and that had went agaisnt the Greeks and Romans way of thinking. For instence the Greeks and Romans thought that the world was the center of the universe. The scientific method proved that it was wrong that we are not the center of the universe. People like Galileo were users of this new found method. Going agaisnt old Scientist like Aristoles way of seeing things. Isaac Newton was another scientist that proved Aristotle wrong and made the laws of gravity.

A example of the scientific method would be like when isaac newton went agaisnt Aristotle and then tested it. Showing that Isaacs way was the correct one.
